According to the Financial Times, British Airways is facing the largest group claim over a data breach following a 2018 incident that exposed personal data of more than 400 000 customers. More than 16 000 customers have joined the case according to the lead solicitors in the group litigation case. This update comes after British Airways indicated it was prepared to settle claims. The data breach had allowed attackers to access sensitive information of customers, including names, addresses, payment card numbers, and CVV codes. This case is the first group lawsuit of its kind in the UK following the entry into force of the EU's General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) in 2018.
