The city of Amsterdam was compelled by local court to allow residents of its historic centre to rent their properties to tourists again on Airbnb. Amsterdam's city council issued a ban on rental through Airbnb and other platforms dedicated to short-term rentals in 2020. The city aimed at to curb the nuisance caused by tourists in the old city centre. A local court lifted the ban immediately after an association of property owners brought the case on the grounds that the city had no legal basis to ban short-term rentals. The ruling allows homeowners to rent out their properties through Airbnb for up 30 nights per year to a group of no more than four at a time.
