The United Nations has released the 2020 Sustainable Development Goals Report. The report highlights the importance of timely, quality, open, and disaggregated data and statistics which has been further accentuated by the COVID-19 crisis. It stresses that the pandemic is jeopardising the production of data central for the achievement of sustainable development goals (SDGs) and as such is deepening the data gap and inequalities between states.
The report also provides reflections on remote learning and argues that it still remains out of reach for many students, in particular those in the least developed countries that lack adequate Internet access. Despite the fact that mobile connections are nearly universal, half of the world's population remains offline.
