The Chinese video sharing platform TikTok is being investigated in the UK for the handling of the personal data of children and the security measures it takes for children on their platform. The investigation which began in February 2019 was triggered by a fine imposed on the company by the US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) for similar violations.
Addressing the UK Parliamentary Committee, Information Commissioner Elizabeth Denham said that the company was potentially violating the GDPR which 'requires the company to provide different services and different protections for children'.
