Spain's Economy Minister, Nadia Calvino, has stated that the country will work towards establishing a set of regulations for Artificial Intelligence (AI) during its presidency of the Council of the European Union. The rules will aim to balance the need for privacy protection with the development of AI technology. Spain is set to take on the rotating presidency of the Council of the European Union in the second half of 2023.

This announcement comes after Spain's Data Protection Agency (AEPD) announced an independent investigation on 13 April to examine OpenAI's practices for possible breaches. The AEPD also said that, it requested the EU's data protection watchdog to include ChatGPT on the agenda of its next plenary meeting.
