In apost published on the APNIC blog, Microsoft's Principal Network Engineer Markus Keane is explaining that the company plans to move to Internet protocol version 6 (IPv6) only as soon as possible, as a way to solve problems with IPv4 depletion and address oversubscription. While the company has been running IPv6 on its networks for several years, in addition to IPv4, it founds the dual-stack requirements and implications too complex and complicated. The change to IPv6-only, Keane explains, will allow Microsoft 'to move to a simpler world of network operations where we can concentrate on innovation and providing network services, instead of wasting energy battling with such a fundamental resource as addressing'.
