The GSMA published a new report titled Supporting the Growth of the Tech Start-up Ecosystem in Uganda: A Policy Outlook which looks at the role of mobile in the tech start-up ecosystem in Uganda, reviews the policy environment in which start-ups operate, and identifies challenges faced by start-ups in Uganda. The research hinges on an online survey and stakeholder interviews with mobile operators, start-ups, and government representatives. It further pinpoints four areas to address the barriers Ugandan start-ups face in launching, scaling, and expanding internationally: (a) developing an enabling business environment, (b) improving access to funding, (c) supporting the development of critical business skills, (d) enabling affordable access to mobile and mobile Internet services.
