The Group on Earth Observations (GEO) joined forces together with UN Habitat to provide an 'Earth Observation Toolkit for Sustainable Cities and Communities'. The toolkit is intended to support UN member states achieve sustainable development goals (SDGs), namely SDG 11 -Sustainable Cities and Communities. The programme will explore how emerging technologies such as big data, artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning can help in urban monitoring by for instance tracking urban expansion and densification, mapping informal settlements and environmental and climate conditions but also in reporting on SDGs progress.
