Egypt's highest administrative court ruled that operations by ride-hailing companies are legal and lifted a ban on their activities. Uber and its national competitor Careem have faced opposition from taxi drives for years. In March 2018, according toReuters, 42 taxi drivers sued Uber and Careem alleging that they were using unlawfully private cars like taxis and did not have the proper licence to provide transportation services. A lower administrative court withdrew the permits of Uber and Careem. In April 2018, the Cairo Court of Urgent Matters suspended the ban until a final decision to be made by the highest administrative court, which ruled both companies' operations were legal.??
