The recently released Statistics Canada data reveal an increase in Child pornography charges and cases of online sexual abuse of children during the lockdown.
Data indictes 27% increase in charges of creating or distributing child pornography material online; 19 per cent increase in accessing or possessing child sexual content; a 15 per cent increase in luring a child online; and an 11 per cent increase in the non-consensual sharing of intimate images.
The Canadian Centre for Child Protection shared that its child sexual abuse reporting hotline CyberTip.ca recorded a 40 per cent increase in calls in the first two weeks of the pandemic and a 106 per cent increase by the end of the 2020 fiscal year.
