To keep children safe online, a plan by the Labor party in Australia proposes to encourage children to earn a digital licence under the eSmart Digital Licence program. If elected, Labor proposes to roll it out nationally in schools for students aged 10 to 14 and also a version for children aged five to nine. Labor has promised to fund $6 million if elected to roll the initiative out nationally over a period of three years targeting secondary school students aged 12 to 16.
This program is currently delivered by the Alannah & Madeline Foundation, for schools which can afford it or have philanthropic support.
