The popular social media app, TikTok, has been under fire in the United States due to concerns about national security. Allegations that the Chinese government has access to user data from the app have prompted the US government to ban the installation of the app on its devices.
However, calls for an outright ban or legislation that would authorise the US administration to seek a ban are growing. In light of these calls, American official Kevin McCarthy, the US House of Representatives Speaker, stated on Twitter that the House would be introducing legislation to protect Americans from what he called 'the technological tentacles of the Chinese Communist Party.'
