The UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) eTrade kicked off a new masterclass to help empower and build the skills of women digital entrepreneurs in East Africa and to explore opportunities amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The first virtual masterclass, which will be convened between 8-10 July 2020, is open to the public and will be broadcasted live. The three-day event targets established women digital entrepreneurs from Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, and Uganda. It is designed around networking, learning, and policy engagement sessions that explore gender-related challenges and promote more inclusive policy-making. 'We need to use this moment to ensure women, especially those in the developing world, have a seat at the table and are able to harness the digital gains,' emphasised UNCTAD's technology and logistics director Shamika N. Sirimanne.
