In Sri Lanka, the Cabinet of Ministers has given the green light to a proposal by the Minister of Education to digitally transform general education with support from the Chinese government.
Following a feasibility study, China has agreed to fund the project, providing essential infrastructure such as classrooms, data centers, tables, a studio, and a conference room.
This initiative addresses teacher and resource shortages, supports education reforms, and improves the blended learning approach by facilitating resource sharing and specialized teacher knowledge transfer.
This aligns with Minister Premajayantha's vision to modernise Sri Lanka's education sector for the digital era and advance it alongside the global future, per his statement during the 'Mobile World Congress -24' in Barcelona, Spain. Reflecting China's continued endorsement of this vision, President Ranil Wickremesinghe's four-day visit to China last year culminated in an agreement that further solidifying Huawei's commitment to digitizing Sri Lanka's schools.
