Social change charity condemns UK government for not providing adequate support to adults below the digital divide

Social change charity The Good Things Foundation condemned the UK government for digitally excluding millions of adults due to a lack of government support and investment into internet access, which has been heightened during the COVID-19 crisis. The criticism came in light of Prime Minister Boris Johnson's recent announcement that a further 50,000 devices have already been sent to schools. 'The government has done quite a lot around the child part of the digital divide. But for adults, the government has not invested a single extra pound on adult digital inclusion, be that around devices, or be that around skills,' highlighted The Good Things Foundation Chief Executive Helen Milner. She further denounced the government for providing services and schemes online when there are nine million adults who are unable to use the internet without support, and seven million households without internet connection.
