See it at NAB: Cisco & Fox Running Live, Uncompressed Video -Over Ethernet

Apr, 08, 2013 Hi-network.com

It's early April, which means it's time to trek back to Las Vegas for the annual National Association of Broadcasters show (Booth A113, North Hall.) It's a busy NAB for us this year, for lots of reasons -starting with the (way cool!) proof of concept demonstration we're doing with Fox, to run live, uncompressed video over Ethernet.

That's right: Video over Ethernet. The intent is to show that an Ethernet backbone into a broadcast production facility is a plausible way to improve video processing -it's flexible, it's cost-effective, and it enables new servers to be brought up more quickly. Plus, and in keeping with the constant drumbeat that is IP video, we'll be shining the light on our work around HEVC (high efficiency video coding) compression, ABR (advanced bit rate) streaming, dynamic ad insertion (DAI) and real-time mobile analytics. (That was a mouthful!)

Where to find us: Booth A113 in the North Hall, plus this year ten (10!) Cisco people will be serving as speakers about current events in video -three of them keynotes. The range of topics they'll cover reflects what a wonderfully diverse time it is to be in the video business -everything from connected stadiums to the future of TV, the latest in ad insertion to "production clouds," and lots more. Read our press release for all the details on our panels and speakers throughout the show.

We're also sponsoring a Super Session on Tuesday April 9 from 12:30-1:30 (room S222). IDC analyst Greg Ireland will moderate a panel of experts from ESPN, Fox, TV Globo and Verizon about the future of content networks.

That's a very short look what's shaping up to be a pretty busy week at NAB. Please come by and say hello!
