Kenya has become the second country in Africa after South Africa to have a 5G network after mobile network operator Safaricom deployed the technology. 5G will initially be available in the capital city of Nairobi as well as Western Kenya. The technology was deployed in cooperation with telecom companies Huawei and Nokia. Tests by journalists indicated that fewer than 100 devices had been connected to the network on the day of the launch. The Kenyan telecom regulator did not disclose how much Safaricom had paid for the 5G licence, saying that licence fees were still under negotiation.
