The online education system e-Sgoil was first introduced in north Scotland in 2016 to improve subject choice for pupils in the geographically scattered islands. With schools closed across the nation during the COVID-19 lockdown and the soaring demand for online learning, the system has been used in all local authorities for certain courses in the last few months. The Association of Directors of Education in Scotland (ADES), the Education Scotland, and education directors are now discussing the possibility of having e-Sgoil assume the role of the national online learning platform.
