Pinterest consented to pay US$22.5 million to settle a gender discrimination lawsuit by its former CEO Fran?oise Brougher. In addition, the platform agreed to donate US$2.5 million towards charities that support women in the tech industry. As part of the settlement agreement, Pinterest did not admit having any liability for sex discrimination against Brougher. The CEO filed a lawsuit alleging that she was constantly discriminated against. The instances of gender discrimination included being left out of important meetings, being given gendered feedback, and getting paid less than her male counterparts. More than 200 Pinterest employees supported Brougher by leaving the company. The settlement was one of the largest publicly individual agreements for gender discrimination, according to the New York Times.
