Nigeria's Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared over 45% of voter registration data invalid following a data cleanup exercise. Consequently, these registrations have been removed from the voters roll ahead of the 2023 General Elections. Two main issues were identified with the nullified registrations- voters who were already registered and incomplete data. INEC used an Automated Biometric Identification System (ABIS) that deduplicated fingerprints and also used facial recognition to verify voters before issuing permanent voter registration cards.
