Angola's network operator, Angola Telecom, and Liquid Dataport are launching a new terrestrial fibre route in the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA). The route connecting Luanda and Johannesburg, South Africa, will go through the Democratic Republic of Congo, Zambia, and Zimbabwe, providing regional customers with high-speed connectivity.
The new terrestrial fibre route will foster direct commerce corridors between eastern and southern Africa, providing high-speed connectivity and direct connectivity to data centres in South Africa to small- and medium-sized enterprises in Angola. Angola's president said that partnering with the private sector will contribute to the economic growth of the country's non-oil economy.
Additionally, better access is expected to enable social inclusion and ensure access to telemedicine, distance learning, electronic learning, and other associated services, while contributing towards health, education, food security, gender equality, and poverty reduction. Angola has a strategic plan until 2050 to equip schools with computers and access to develop digital skills and advance innovation.
