According to Tan Sri Richard Malanjum, Malaysia's chief justice, judges in the country will soon begin using artificial intelligence (AI) to help them issue more consistent decisions. A data-driven tool named 'data sentencing' is currently being fine-tuned and is hoped to be deployed in courts by the end of January 2019. The tool is intended to 'help or guide judges and officers with the sentencing process so that there would be less disparity of the same offenses when it comes before the courts'. Malajum also spoke about perspectives for a future in which the Malaysian judicial system will be using virtual courtrooms and holograms instead of today's video conferencing system.
