Japan Airlines (JAL) announced that it will begin trials with three industry leading digital health apps in hopes of implementing standardised digital health checks on its international flights. CommonPass, developed by the World Economic Forum and the Commons Project, will be trialed in its Tokyo Haneda -Honolulu route and Tokyo Narita -Singapore route. VeriFLY, developed by a software company Daon, will be trialed in its flights from Japan to North America in April 2021. The company will begin the trial of IATA Travel Pass, developed by the International Air Travel Association (IATA), in May 2021 on selected international flights. JAL noted that CommonPass and the IATA Travel Pass aim to become the industry standard for full implementation on a global scale, while VeriFLY is in practical use in the USA, allowing the smooth introduction of the platform on JAL international flights to/from the USA.
