The Weizmann Institute of Science announced the launch of Israel's first quantum computer -a five-qubit machine which relies on an advanced technology called ion traps (these are systems in which each ion (ions are electrically charged atoms) represents a single qubit). The team behind this success is also working on an advanced quantum computer -named WeiQC -which is scheduled to work with 64 qubits and is 'expected to demonstrate the quantum advantage, which until now has only been achieved by computers built in two labs: at Google and at the University of Science and Technology of China'.
