The International Air Transport Association (IATA) announced that it is in the final phase of developing the IATA Travel Pass, a digital health pass that will support countries in safely reopening their borders. Governments worldwide are beginning to use testing as a means to limit the risk of COVID-19 transmission when reopening their borders to international travelers without quarantine measures. The IATA Travel Pass allows for the secure management and verification of testing or vaccine information among governments, airlines, laboratories, and travelers. The digital health pass incorporates four open source and interoperable modules, which can establish an end-to-end solution that includes: (a) Global registry of health requirements; (b) global registry of testing and vaccination centres; (c) lab app that enables authorised labs and test centres to security share test results; and (d) contactless travel app that enables passengers to create a digital passport while receiving and sharing test and vaccination certificates with airlines and authorities.
