Hyundai has suffered a data breach affecting the personal data of Italian and French car owners and those who booked a test drive. The breach resulted in hackers accessing personal data, including email addresses, physical addresses, telephone numbers, and vehicle chassis numbers. However, no financial data or identification numbers were stolen.
Hyundai stated that it has engaged IT experts to address the issue and has taken impacted systems offline until additional security measures are implemented.
The company has warned its customers to be cautious of unsolicited emails and SMS texts claiming to originate from Hyundai.
Hyundai has informed the data protection authorities in France and Italy. It is currently unknown if other countries have been affected by the breach.
