Huawei files lawsuit over 5G network equipment ban in Portugal

06 de setembro de 2023 Hi-network.com

Huawei has taken legal action against Portugal's cybersecurity council CSSC for a resolution that prevents operators from using their equipment in 5G mobile networks. The Chinese tech giant filed a lawsuit with a Lisbon court regarding the matter. As reported to Reuters, Huawei Portugal insists they seek protection of their legal rights as a company established in Portugal.

The CSSC, which advises the prime minister, had earlier passed a resolution on May that was perceived as obstructing Huawei's attempts to establish independent 5G networks in Portugal and expand existing 4G contracts on which the new technology is built, despite not specifically mentioning the company's name.

The major telecommunication operators in Portugal, including Altice, NOS, and Vodafone, have publicly declared they will not use Huawei's equipment in their 5G core networks.

Huawei faces challenges in its operations in various Western markets due to a long-standing campaign against the vendor on security grounds in the critical infrastructure. The recent issues faced by Huawei in Portugal are just the latest in a series of setbacks for the Chinese telecoms giants.
