Google to monetize map data on renewable energy

29 de agosto de 2023 Hi-network.com

Google intends to allow companies to use its new sets of mapping data as they build products on renewable energy. In the process, it aims to generate up to$100 million in revenue in its first year by monetizing its new APIs (Application Programming Interfaces), which provide information on energy, solar, air quality, etc.

Additionally, it is set to unveil an Air Quality API as part of its upcoming launch. This API will enable customers to access air quality information for particular locations, including data on pollutants and health recommendations. It will also offer digital heat maps, hourly air quality updates, and up to 30 days of air quality history.

It plans to offer a new Solar API, which can be utilized by renewable energy companies such as SunRun and Tesla Energy and solar design companies like Aurora Solar. The company also sees potential customers in real estate companies like Zillow and Redfin, hospitality companies like Marriott Bonvoy, and utilities like PG&E.

Google is currently attempting to monetize its maps products to generate revenue during an economic slowdown. Although Google does not disclose the exact amount its Maps business generates, it has traditionally been one of its least monetized products.
