As the US has increased the pressure on its allies over China's Huawei, Germany has resisted and declined to remove Huawei from the list of companies eligible for developing its 5G infrastructure. Germany's Interior Minister Horst Seehofer has stated that excluding Huawei could delay the 5G rollout by five to ten years. This follows Chancellor Angela Merkel's statement that no company should be blacklisted from Germany's 5G network. Minister Seehofer also called on Europeans and his fellow Germans to be more competitive in this arena. On the issue of security, the minister indicated that Germany can implement additional safety measures.
