Following the enactment of the Digital Healthcare Act in 2019, Health Minister Hens Spahn has approved two health applications to be prescribed by doctors, according to a report. With the approval, the cost will be covered by the statutory health insurance (GKV). The approved apps went through the test procedure of the Federal Institute for Drugs and Medical Devices (BfArM). The BfArM has received 27 applications for health insurance reimbursement so far. For apps to qualify, they have to demonstrate the effectiveness of the treatment process within a year.
