Finland offers access to quantum computer for European businesses

07 de novembro de 2023 Hi-network.com

Finland has introduced its inaugural quantum computer, known as Lumi, which is now accessible to Finnish and European enterprises seeking to create quantum algorithms and software. Lumi, a 5-qubit quantum computer that became operational in November 2021, can be utilized via the LUMI supercomputer situated in central Finland. Companies can gain access to Lumi by paying a fixed monthly fee, extending its availability to businesses of all scales and sectors. The finance and pharmaceutical industries are anticipated to be early beneficiaries of Lumi's computational capabilities.

Pekka Pursula, the research manager for quantum technologies at VTT, predicts that quantum computing's potential and problem-solving prowess will advance swiftly in the upcoming years. Enterprises can harness Lumi for the development of quantum algorithms and exploration of their potential as quantum computing capabilities continue to expand.

Why does this matter?

This development underscores the complementary relationship between quantum and high-performance computing technologies, opening up novel hybrid usage prospects. The availability of Lumi is a significant step towards harnessing the immense potential of quantum computing and driving innovation in multiple industries.
