Key takeaways

  • The Acefast Acefit Air headphones are available now on Amazon for a sale price of$63.
  • These headphones offer all-day comfort and just enough customizations to make them worth the price.
  • The sound very much depends on the Custom EQ in the Acefast app, otherwise they're disappointingly hollow.
$79.99 at Amazon

For a limited time, Amazon is selling theAceFast Acefit Air headphones for$63 (21% off), making the already affordable accessories more so.

I wasn't a fan of the open-ear headphone format until I discovered how comfortable and stable they can be. My assumption was that they'd fly off my ears during a run, and I'd be out of luck. Once I realized I was mistaken, I welcomed the design and even started using a pair from Beyerdynamic for phone calls.

Also: These wireless earbuds are the reason why I've ditched Bose and Apple - and they're on sale

I might now have my new favorite pair for running. That pair is theAcefast Acefit Air . They're cheaper than most headphones and still deliver decent sound but amazing comfort.

My experience

When I first connected the Acefast Acefit Air headphones to my Pixel 9 Pro, I already had the Led Zeppelin Live O2 album queued up, so I hit play on Kashmir and immediately realized I needed to check to see if there was an app. Why? The sound was hollow and emphasized too much in the midrange.

The Acefast EQ portion of the app.

The 8-band EQ will do (but could use 2 more bands).

Fortunately, there's an AceFast app (Android, iOS). I installed the app and had the headphones connected in seconds. With that out of the way, I immediately dove into the Custom EQ option (there are only four different default EQ settings - Original Sound, Human Voice, Bass, and Custom. Ignore the first three because they're pretty much garbage (unless you like a lot of mids or hollow thumps and not much more).

Also: One of my favorite open-ear headphones just hit an all-time low price

With the Custom EQ, you get 8 bands (ranging from 100Hz to 12.8kHz). I created my usual curve and saved it, only to realize the headphones couldn't handle the amount of low-end I'd added. Every time Jason Bonham (John Bohnam's son) hit the kick drum, the headphones presented the slightest bit of distortion. That did not bode well, especially for the kick-drum-heavy metal genre.

I then switched to one of my all-time favorites, "Kingdom" by Devin Townsend. This song really leans into blast beats, and I was surprised the headphones could handle it.

Before you get too excited, know there's not much separation at the low or high ends. The sound is quite compressed, so discerning what is bass drum and bass guitar can be a challenge. However, these types of headphones are primarily geared toward active types like myself, and when I'm out pounding pavement, I care less about the quality of sound and more about the quantity.

These headphones weigh next to nothing, so they're very comfortable.

I want to hear the music well without sacrificing ambient sound. I still need to hear what's happening around me so I don't wind up flattened by a car. The Acefast Acefit Air headphones handle this important job as well as any other open-air headphones I've used.

Again, you won't get high-resolution audio with a wide soundstage and clean separation. That being said, at only$63, these headphones are a bargain. And because they're so comfortable, you can wear them for a full marathon and hardly notice their existence, even as you cross the finish line.

Also: These discounted earbuds deliver audio so high quality, you'll forget they're mid-range

As for the best genres, the Air headphones are good for jazz, pop, the 80s, podcasts, grunge (which surprised me), dark wave, ambient, and classic rock.

The Acefast Acefit Air headphones absolutely depend on the mobile app. Even then, you need to play around with the Custom EQ to get the best sound possible. In my opinion, it would have been nice to offer 2 more bands in the EQ to hopefully get a bit more definition at the low end.

But then I have to remind myself that these are those times when the quality of sound has to take a back seat to quantity.

buying advice

As long as you don't expect a wide soundstage and plenty of separation at the lows and highs, you'll be perfectly satisfied with how theAcefast Acefit Air open-air headphones perform. They're loud enough for outdoor use, comfortable enough for all day wearing, and allow you to customize the controls to perfectly fit your needs. At$63, you'd be hard-pressed to find a better pair of headphones with this design.
