The US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) rejected the plans to issue the licenses for the new 5G network that would work at the 12Ghz frequency band. Main reason why proposal is dismissed is the fact that the 'Starlink' satellite providers use that particular spectrum band for downloading data.
The FCC quoted 'a significant risk of harmful interference to existing and emergent services, particularly in the growing satellite broadband market' to be the main reason for such decision.
The FCC adopted rules to preserve spectrum between 12.2-12.7 GHz for current and future satellite services.
The Starlink project is a satellite constellation maintained by the Elon Musk's SpaceX company. It delivers high-speed low-latency Internet for the 53 country and territories worldwide
