The Committee on Culture and Education in the European Parliament has adopted a draft resolution on artificial intelligence (AI) in education, culture, and the audiovisual sector, noting that the use of AI in these fields could impact the fundamental rights and values of our society. The resolution -expected to be debated in the European Parliament's plenary in May 2021 -calls for AI technologies to be regulated in a way that prevents discrimination and protects gender equality, plurasim, and cultural and linguistic diversity. The document also highlights the need for a clear ethical framework for how AI technologies are used in media, to ensure that people have access to culturally and linguistically diverse content. In this regard, specific indicators should be developed to measure diversity and ensure that algorithm-based content recommendations (especially in video and music streaming services) are not affecting cultural and linguistic diversity. Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) then underline the need for AI systems to be trained using inclusive and ethical data sets, to prevent discrimination and gender inequality. With regard to the education sector, MEPs stress the need to train teachers on the use of AI and to ensure that they are able to correct decisions taken by AI (for instance, in evaluations of student's work).
