Margrethe Vestager Vice-President for Digital of the European Commission is encouraging telecoms ministers within the EU to reduce any 5G spectrum assignment delays despite the challenges arising due to the Coronavirus and to strive to maintain the pace in order to meet defined timeframe objectives. This follows the postponement of spectrum frequency auctions in Spain, Austria, Portugal, Poland and the Czech Republic delaying the rollout of 5G networks in these territories. The EU's next-generation telecommunications goals expects all member states to launch 5G services by end of year 2020 with continued rollout across urban areas and major transport areas by 2025.
