A report 'Connecting learners: Narrowing the educational divide' published by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) finds that an improvement in broadband connectivity in schools in countries with low internet penetration could increase the GDP by 20 percent. The study notes that for every 10 percent increase in internet connectivity in a school in a given country, the GDP could increase by 1.1 percent. In order to make these changes, EIU suggests better collaboration between stakeholders, building of infrastructure, use of digital tools in education and safety of children online.
