Associated Newspapers, the Daily Mail owner in the UK, has sued Google for manipulating search results and exercising too much control over online advertising. The publishers claim that Google downgrades publishers in its search results when they fail to sell enough advertising placements. Daily Mail decided to sue Google after its coverage of Megan Markle's interview to the America host Oprah Winfrey was shown less often than smaller publishers to users. Daily Mail accuses Google of having anticompetitive practices, given the publisher website is lower ranked on Google's search results, since Daily Mail decided to divert advertising traffic away from Google to other ad exchanges, which paid better prices.
