The Canadian federal government is seeking dismissal of a potential class action suit involving use of facial recognition software by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP). This follows a finding by the Canadian privacy commissioner and three provincial counterparts that the New York-based Clearview AI had violated Canadian privacy law by compiling a database of faces from the internet.
In the lawsuit, a Quebec photographer is seeking to institute a class action lawsuit against the RCMP, since they used Clearview's facial recognition database.
