The Chinese Academy of Science released the Big Earth Data in Support of Sustainable Development Goals which tackles how China can utilise big earth data to support the realisation of sustainable development goals (SDGs). The report tackles five goals, namely, SDG 2 (Zero Hunger), SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), SDG 14 (Life below Water), and SDG 15 (Life on Land). It seeks to 'fill in knowledge gaps and develop technologies, methodologies, data products, and open, accessible cloud-based data analysis for environments'. The study highlights that big earth data supports SDGs in three ways. First, big earth data fills in missing data and provides new means of evaluations. Second, it contributes to the creation of new methodologies to evaluate SDGs. Lastly, big earth data helps in monitoring the progress of SDGs.
