In response to US Senators' inquiry about home security device company Ring's policy (subsidiary of Amazon), Amazon issued a public letter addressing their concerns about the privacy and security of Ring products. In the letter, the company highlights its obligations to privacy, security, and user data control. The company also discloses information about past incidents in which four complaints were received regarding a team member's access to Ring video data. In all cases, although the individuals involved were authorised to view the data, the attempted access to the data exceeded what was necessary for their job functions and people involved were fired. In its letter, Amazon also stated that it began alerting people when new devices access their account and when their passwords have been taken in breaches on other websites. Ring currently faces two lawsuits following several hackings of Ring products.
