According to the 2019 FinAccess household survey, 83% of Kenyans have access to financial services. The report, developed by the Central Bank of Kenya, Kenya National Bureau of Statistics, and FSD Kenya rates Kenya third in Africa in financial inclusion, after Seychelles and South Africa. The high rate of financial inclusion is attributed to mobile money which made financial services available to unbanked populations. However, the report noted that Kenyans were suffering from heavy debt burden brought about by ease of borrowing from mobile loan applications.
